The Sabbath
On the seventh day of creation, God did something that demonstrated He was truly a powerful Spirit: |
He created time – and made it holy. |
Notice: He created the Sabbath after He created man (on the sixth day). God created the Sabbath for man (Mk 2:27). There was purpose for the Sabbath upon its creation. |
Old Testament Concerning the Sabbath |
- God kept it (Gen 2:2-3) - The Sabbath existed before the law (Ex 16) - God made it a formal command (Ex 20:8) - God called the Sabbath a sign (Ex 31) - God personally wrote the commandment (Ex 24:12; 31:18; 32:16) - God indicted Israel for breaking it (Ezek 20; 22:26) - Judah warned (Jer 17:19-27) and punished (Jer 52:12-30) |
