The
Eternal Church of God
Who We
Are
The Eternal Church of God is a highly committed community of believers that
traces its roots to the Church founded by Jesus Christ on the day of Pentecost
in the first century A.D. Jesus said, “I will build my church; and the
gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” The Eternal Church of God
believes that Jesus Christ has preserved His Church down through the ages and
that He continues to work through human leaders just as he did with Peter and
the other apostles to proclaim the Gospel message of the good news of the coming
Kingdom of God.
In recent history, the Eternal Church of God traces its roots to the work Jesus
performed through Herbert W. Armstrong. During
the first half of the twentieth century, Mr. Armstrong began to preach the
Gospel message on radio. He later produced the World Tomorrow
television program, which grew to become the most watched religious program in
America. He also founded Ambassador College, wrote several books and dozens of
booklets, and published The Plain Truth, a magazine with a circulation of
more than 8 million subscribers. Mr. Armstrong traveled around the world as
an ambassador without portfolio, taking the Gospel message to kings, prime
ministers, and various world leaders. Through
his work, millions were helped to understand God’s truth.
As Mr. Armstrong preached the Gospel, he continually admonished people to read
the Bible and to “prove all things.” He taught that while
salvation is a free gift from God, obedience is an essential part of the
Christian walk. He also taught that the Ten Commandments represent
the way of love toward God and neighbor, and that there are two paths in life
– God’s way of “give”, as
opposed to man’s way of “get.” After Mr. Armstrong's death in 1986, his successors
repudiated everything he had taught, and began teaching doctrines that were
never embraced by the Church Jesus founded. The apostle Paul warned that at the end of the age there would
come “a falling away” (2 Thessalonians 2:3). Mr. Armstrong's successors have
fulfilled that prophecy.
After Mr. Armstrong’s death and the introduction of false teachings within the
Worldwide Church of God, God's people were scattered just as the prophets Ezekiel and Jeremiah
foretold (Ezekiel 34; Jeremiah 23). As a result, numerous fellowships (splinter
groups) have emerged. For the most part, these groups share a common core
theology, but vary greatly in their approach to the work of proclaiming the
Gospel message. The Eternal Church of God is a fellowship born out of a belief
that it can do a meaningful work. It is committed to fulfilling Christ’s
commission to proclaim the Gospel message of
the good news of the coming Kingdom of God.
To this end, the Eternal Church of God is honored to sponsor The
World to Come telecast as well as publish a variety of booklets, books, articles, weekly scriptures and audio messages designed to declare the truth of God's Word and His
plan for the destiny of the universe.
